Souls noob playing Elden Ring Part 01 The game looks and plays like a BOSS
Ok, I am not a huge Dark Souls or From Software fan, I have always claimed that the mystique surrounding their games is overrated and the game developers just use very simple and annoying tricks to make their games what their are (hidden enemies, insta-kills, wonky and very precise controls, respawning enemies, moving the player far back on the level after death - that's some Ninja Gaiden sh*t right there) but once you get adjusted and learned the game by heart, it becomes deprived of all the mystical difficulty. Why? Because in my opinion, 50% of the difficulty in souls-like games is surprise and rapidity - but after some time the game becomes simply static. Enemies are always in the same plays, bosses have patterns. Don't get me wrong, games by From Software are very good, they have great atmosphere, wonderful views, the combat mechanics (though kind of wooden) give lots of satisfaction with the intense 1-on-1 combat.
So, the devs decided to throw all of that into an open world, with great graphics, huge map, lots of secrets and... jumping, whips anda samurai class?! Count me in, baby! I chose the samurai, because it will give some Ghost of Tsushima (in Purgatory) vibes. I'll also try to find a whip, to pretend the game is Castlevania. What you'll notice, I'm going to stick to katanas held with both hands. I will try not to use shields (unless the situation gets very dramatic).
All in all, this is my first experience with the game BUT before recording, I played it for 2 hours to just check the performance, etc. That's why I may seem kind of familiar with controls and the first two dungeons. The game has some HUGE fps hiccups, which are very dangerous when you're during intense combat ;/
Note: This playthrough is called "noob" not because all I have played in my life was Fifa, Forza and Stardew Valley (good games in their genre BTW). I am simply not that familiar with all the souls games - I either do not own them or have not finished them entirely. I am not able to fight a boss with a dance dance revolution mat. I am just here to admire the beauty of this game and inhale the ambiguous story. If the game gives you a bow, I'll probably use it when in need. If the game has an open world and a leveling system, I'll might grind a bit from time to time.
