Sour Gas #OrBust! Part 13: Phosphorus Refining Begins (ONI: Spaced Out!)
9This VOD is the 13th part of my rebooted long-term Sour Gas Boiling play-through for Oxygen Not Included! In this video, we sort out the Nectar production from our Bonbon Tree and confirm that the freezer is working properly for the moment with Ethanol. By the time the Iron Volcano erupts, we should be able to swap most of the Ethanol out for Nectar at this rate to increase the heat capacity of our cooling loop. We also begin our Phosphorus refining setup: based on our previous design ( • How To Refine Phosphorus For Free In ONI: ... ), but smaller to accommodate a smaller throughput and save some space. Phosphorus melts from Phosphorite at around 247° C and has much higher heat capacity, so the whole design should preheat itself to the point where we can actually power it with a Steam Turbine running off of its own heat. But I'm gonna connect everything into our Transformer spine anyways so we can utilise any excess power it generates. We'll finish this off tomorrow but it's pretty much ready to go; the only issue is I actually need to generate some heat to get the initial batch of Phosphorus melted! So a Liquid Tepidiser is going to be the solution in this case. Cycles 291-308 are in this video.
The aim of this run is for me to execute my plans from my Water recycling videos ( • How To Recycle Water Forever in Oxygen Not... and • How To Recycle Water EVEN HARDER in Oxygen... ) and build a completely sustainable and well-organised colony with zero inputs. But first this means I'll need to explore our asteroid, set up a normal base first, and get some industry going. This is going to be a longer-than-usual run, and I'm hoping to explore the rest of the Spaced Out content that I never got around to here too. We may occasionally interrupt it with short challenges.
