Space Engineers 2024 DS9 Orbiting Massive Planet
Normally as you know a planet in SE is smallish - too big to fully explore possibly, but certainly the scale is diminished. This massive planet is much much larger and yet nowhere near as big as it could have been. The atmosphere extends to around 300,000 m (perhaps a bit less I am not entirely sure) so today we shot for an orbit of 150,000 m. This presents a few challenges as the gravity extends a bit further than I expected making some ships struggle to keep stable low orbits. Example, My TOS Enterprise has no issue as she is a VTOL beast, My ISS however drops in a fairly attractive rock like manner from even 150,000 m because it's basically made of tinfoil and dreams.
The mod that allowed me to make this planet is "Real Solar Systems" mod: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3351055036
(This planet's settings were I think 1000 Km - I'll check at some point. Still way bigger than the 120 Km vanilla planets.
I did put water on it as I'll be tinkering here for awhile - the water mod is here: https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=2200451495
I'm using aerodynamic physics, that mod is here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=571920453
Countless other mods as listed on any of my star trek ships or stations... Plane parts... etc.
*We are up there, it is survival mode, I have no idea how long it will last. Prior to this, (and pitiably I didn't get it recorded,) I tried an orbit with Vienna (a space shuttle thingy) and realized as I popped SRB at 100,000 m that the gravity was still practically 100% so the SRB damaged the wing. It was okay aside from that and we managed to keep an orbit at 130,000(ish) but unfortunately ISS will obviously need a bit more thrust to play here.
(I can do that... I might do that)
