Space Gun (Master System) Playthrough [4K]
"Space Gun" is a first-person rail shooter game released by Taito in 1990. The game was first released in the arcades, and was later ported to a number of different platforms. Players assume the role of a commando dispatched to investigate a severely damaged, seemingly deserted spaceship.
Upon boarding, players encounter automated defenses and soon realize they are not alone. Deadly xenomorphs have overrun the ship, leaving only a few survivors. The mission is to eliminate the hostile aliens and rescue any remaining crew members.
The game seamlessly transitions between side-scrolling and forward-scrolling sections, each concluding with a boss battle and cinematic scenes that drive the plot forward. Equipped with a default weapon with unlimited ammo, players can also acquire four unique special weapons, including a high-powered laser and screen bombs, enhancing gameplay dynamics. The default weapon can overheat though, where you have to wait for it to cool down.
The game is best experience with a Sega Light Phaser, but is also playable with a game pad. The background, cutscenes and aliens all look good, but the animations are not at the same level. There are also only a few different species of the aliens. Overall, Space Gun offers an enjoyable sci-fi shooter experience.
