After a year since they are featured in different raid day/go fest events, Xurkitree/Pheomosa/Buzzwole has finally made their debut in legendary raid formally in 2024. While they only appears in specific region respectively like Uxie/Mesprit/Azelf.

Xurkitree is a mono-Electric type Pokemon, such that it is only weak to Ground-type moves and nothing else. In the other hand, as a Tier 5 raid boss, Xurkitree has 272 attack and 125 defense. While its attack stat is extremely high even compared to other Tier 5 raid boss, it has a low defense.

With Xurkitree's low defense, it is a relatively easy Duo Raid even without relying on weather boost damage bonus. Specifically, evolving a team of weather boost wild caught Drilbur, Swinub or Gible (a team of Lv35 Excadrill, Mamoswine or Garchomp) is sufficient to defeat Xurkitree as Duo Raid without weather boost.

In fact, with that low defense, Ground-type does not required to defeat Xurkitree as Duo Raid without weather boost. Specifically, Shadow Regigigas, Shadow Mewtwo, Shadow Entei, Shadow Magmortar, Shadow Arcanine, Regigigas, Mewtwo and Shadow Ho-Oh can also defeat Xurkitree under that setting.

In terms of Mega Evolution, similarity , Ground-type Pokemons are not the only ones capable to defeat Xurkitree as Duo Raid without weather boost. While Primal Groudon, Mega Garchomp and Mega Swampert can defeat Xurkitree easily, Mega Rayquaza, Mega Gengar, Mega Blaziken, Primal Kyogre, Mega Alakazam, Mega Beedrill, Mega Sceptile, Mega Charizard Y, Mega Aerodactyl, Mega Latios, Mega Diancie, Mega Gardevoir, Mega Tyranitar, Mega Salamence and Mega Charizard X can also defeat Xurkitree with their strength as generalists.

While Xurkitree can be easily defeated as Duo Raid, it is not easy to be defeated as Solo Raid. As a Solo Raid, Primal Groudon is the only Pokemon that can outrace the raid timer even with weather boost damage bonus, which is the only damage bonus one can utilize in a Solo Raid. However, with Xurkitree's high attack, Primal Groudon cannot defeat Xurkitree without relobby like how Regieleki was. Fortunately, Primal Groudon's DPS allows it to afford a rejoin, or earning enough DPS lead to let the other top counters, e.g., Shadow Excadrill and Shadow Mamoswine, to defeat Xurkitree in time.

Xurkitree as a raid boss learns Spark/Thunder Shock and fast moves and Power Whip/Dazzling Gleam/Thunder/Discharge as charged moves. With the tight DPS on Primal Groudon and Shadow Ground-type Pokemons, pure Electrc-type movesets are the only viable one for this Solo Raid.

For this raid, Primal Groudon is battling Spark/Thunder Xurkitree as Solo Raid. Instead of relying on teammates, Primal Groudon would take the rejoin instead. While Primal Groudon would need to dodge Thunder to acquire enough TDO such that it would only require a single rejoin, it does not need to dodge all of them.

In the other hand, when a 1-bar move user is dodging raid boss's moves, it might need to deliberately overcharge a bit such that it can safely dodge when raid boss is firing on the same time as the 1-bar move is charged up. Needless to day, this playstyle would cause more DPS drop as usual.

Since Primal Groudon does not need to dodge all Thunder, it would instead make use of the extra HP it had and always use Precipice Blades as soon as it is charged up. If Xurkitree is using Thunder at the same time when Primal Groudon is using Precipice Blades, it would just tank the move. With Primal Groudon optimizing its DPS throughout the raid, it defeated Xurkitree with a few seconds left even with a rejoin and some HP regen.

Pokémon used:
