It seems to be a story driven action adventure, but you set out on rogue-like runs. Some things you collect are permanent upgrades, while some things are not. So, you really want to try and successfully complete your runs if possible. I'm not sure how you heal, as I only found healing items after defeating the boss character. The amount of different spells, potions, artifacts, and also the variety of control scheme options allow for a lot of customisation for your specific playstyle. It's also possible to play the game co-op with another person.
