Spirit Hunter: NG [EXTRA] Screaming Autor - おたけび作家
[Ghost File Archive 5 - おたけび作家 (Otakebi Sakka) "Screaming Autor"
ALIASES: Tsubasa Aoi (蒼井翼, Aoi Tsubasa, true name)
SPECIES: Spirit
GENDER: Female
In Japanese, "Tsubasa" (翼) means "wings", which is symbolic to Aoi's tragic fate - becoming a distorted "crane-like" doll.
It was initially believed at first that the Screaming Author was the spirit of Yakumo Miroku, however, in reality, it was actually the spirit of Tsubasa Aoi. A young middle-schooler, she was an exceptional student at a local ballet school, and everyone expected to become a prima donna. When she was chosen to perform the lead role in Lac Des Cane, a dance number about a princess who gets turned into a duck, she put her all into her practice.
One day, on her way back from ballet class, Tsubasa was abducted by Masaru Ishimaru and then murdered by Yakumo Miroku, being the fourth girl he kidnapped in the last thirty years in an effort to keep the Kaguya Doll sealed away. Tsubasa was dismembered, and she was given "wings" and "legs" to become a crane. Even in death, she would cry, not wanting anyone to see her.
Unlike the last three girls Yakumo Miroku murdered, Tsubasa is the last and only victim whose doll form was not present due to Miroku's unfortunate death with Kakuya. Spared from her intended fate, Tsubasa instead held a very powerful grudge that warped the Miroku residence in three different stages that represent a timeline where each girl was abducted and turned into dolls.
The Screaming Author is based on Tsuru no Ongaeshi, a story from Japanese folklore about a crane who returns a favor to a man.
This reference is clearer through the story Miroku was writing, titled Tubasa no Ongaeshi (翼の恩返し, Tsubasa no Ongaeshi)
Tsuru no Ongaeshi ( "Crane's Return of a Favor") is a story from Japanese folklore about a crane who returns a favor to a man. A variant of the story where a man marries the crane that returns the favor is known as Tsuru Nyōbō (鶴女房, "Crane Wife").
According to Japanese scholar Seki Keigo, the story is "one of the best known" tales in Japan about supernatural and enchanted spouses.
