Splatoon 2: Contributing in X-rank Splat Zones [11(4)-5, Zink Mini Splatling]
X-rank Splat Zones. I'm not ready for this! I'm certainly not ready for how much ink a Curling Bomb uses, my goodness. In both cases, an early retreat lets me deal with my anxiety a bit more at my own pace, which makes getting targeted with Tenta Missiles the moment I drop down from the ledge actually hilarious. I dunno how I get away from the Splattershot Pro, particularly with inky feet, but I do, and line myself up a nice splat on the landing Inkjet that I'm happy with.
We combine to stop the Splashdown, which is excellent, and although I keep depleting my ink tank by throwing Curling Bombs, I manage to stay unsplatted for long enough that I think I'm going to do okay. We even force one inkling to super-jump away. I think maybe my squidmates have more to do with that than me, this idea reinforced by my completely missing two inklings, but I don't really register it at the time and just think I'm great! That explains why I stand across the gap from the Splattershot Pro to get splatted really easily.
I stick to the ledge for a bit to get a measure of things, noting that my Mini Splatling doesn't really have the reach of the Heavy Splatling. Weird, that. I drop down at maybe the wrong moment, the blue team capturing the Splat Zones and pushing forwards, and although I just about avoid the Splattershot Pro again, and get a few hits on the Splat Roller, I am out of my depth. I also don't really pay enough attention to where the Splat Roller goes, or rather doesn't go, and get lucky when they botch their ambush. Serves them right, though.
I tidy up as the blue team takes the lead, as if winning matters, and drop down at the more open flank this time. I protect a squidmate blowing Bubbles, before stupidly challenging the Splattershot Pro for a rematch across the gap. Let's hope I don't try that again. I decide to try my luck jumping the water myself, although I get perilously close to falling in as I ink the other side in preparation. But I get across, and work my way around the back, where I surprise the Nautilus. Pushing them back is good, getting the splat is also good if a bit lucky, and splatting the Splat Roller coming my way is probably a bit frustrating for them.
The Splat Zones are ours again, and stay green until we retake the lead. Nice! Maybe that's due in part to my ostensibly taking cover behind a wall waiting for an opportunity, but actually hiding and stopping myself from becoming a blue splotch in the Splat Zones. Either way, I think the Splat Roller may be getting frustrated with my lucky splats on them. As such, I really don't mind when, after the blue team re-capture the Splat Zones, they appear to smack me with feeling over my head. That was a nice splat.
My squidmates capture the Splat Zones again, so I just tidy up around the edges, but hopping the water to give us more open turf to work with. Things start to get a bit messy again, but I do well to avoid most attention, albeit at the expense of the Splat Zones. My squidmates deal with that again as I distract the Splattershot Pro, and almost get the upper hand with them for once! Just as I am thinking this, the Nautilus appears to remind me this is a team game. Good point, Nautilus. Our Carbon Roller passes the lesson back to them.
Hey, look at that map. All my squidmates hunting down the blue team whilst the Splat Zones stay green. I think I helped, here and there, but I definitely have a lot more to learn about X-rank battling.
