Splatoon 2: Survival skills in Salmon Run [20-21-21, 22/551]
I would say these are tricky weapons for Salmon Run, at least for me. Mind you, I have to say that the Bamboozler is probably better in Salmon Run than regular battles, and I do enjoy the Mini Splatling. Even so, the heavy nature of the H-3 Nozzlenose is tricky for me, and the Tetra Dualies feel a bit short-ranged and weak, all made more difficult by being on Ruins of Ark Polaris, the trickiest of the stages. Still, Mr Grizz wants his eggs.
Getting the Mini Splatling first lets me warm up, and low tide is much easier than the other tides at the Ruins, so that's good. Two bosses are despatched nice and quickly near the basket, and two of us are on to the Stinger climbing out of the gunk early. It's just a shame that my squidmate falls in to the gunk. I try to deal with the salmonids first, but get overwhelmed, and nearly get smacked in to the gunk myself. I would like to revive my squidmate, and the other who apparently has also been sunk, but self-preservation kicks in. I don't even have the ink to throw a Splat Bomb, but thankfully our other squidmate does.
Panic over, it's back to splatting bosses. All goes smoothly, for a Salmon Run, although I have no idea how that Steelhead's bomb didn't splat me. I try to take more care for the remaining time in the wave. On to the second wave, and the tide has come in a bit. I also have the Tetra Dualies, which just seem so feeble. At least there are ramps to let me reach the Steelhead. My little arms can't throw a Splat Bomb to the Flyfish as I zip up the ink rail, so I return to get closer, sneaking past a Steel Eel to get back on the ink rail. I try another throw after I go back for a second egg, but I still don't have the range. How strange.
My bold jump down to splat a Stinger doesn't end in disaster, somehow, and I sneak past a Steel Eel and Cohocks alike to deliver another egg, before dropping next to a Steelhead to get some eggs that we kinda need right now. But there are more bosses to splat, and I try to get my dodge rolling working for me. I still can't adjust my aim quickly enough after a roll, more practice required, missing a Drizzler missile, but at least I can get out of the rain and away from a Maws. The Maws follows me even closer to the basket too, for a nice clutch of eggs to end the wave.
On to the third wave, and I have the H-3 Nozzlenose for high tide. It'll do. At least a Grizzco shift is a lower-pressure environment that lets me work on getting the timing of the shots right. The disappearing Maws confuses me for a moment, but I suppose she was following a squidmate on an ink rail, and soon reappears. I prioritise Drizzle missiles over Drizzlers, seeing my squidmates going for the latter, and decide to pull out a Sting Ray to deal with the pesky Flyfish. That gets me rather caught by a Steel Eel, although I do well to avoid that and still splat the Flyfish.
There is too much rain! Drizzlers have come along in force and are proving tricky to deal with, missiles flying everywhere. I can't hit them all. I hop an ink rail to get out of trouble, which works nicely, and pull out my second Sting Ray to try to splat one of the Drizzlers. Unfortunately, that's the moment a Stinger decides to target me, and this time my dodging doesn't go quite so well. I stay unsplatted for the moment, but can't get the Sting Ray working again, and end up cornered. So it goes.
Circumstances start to look desperate! Three of us are splatted, the fourth riding the ink rail but targeted by everything. At least there are only seconds left in the wave, and the run, and they make a good choice by diving off the ink rail to an empty section of grate below the main level. Time runs out before any bosses can get to them, making the run successful. Woomy! We just have time to revive everyone and celebrate a bit, before heading back to the ship.
