Splatoon 3 - Big Run March 2023
The Big Run is upon us! Or it was, at least, taking place over the first weekend of March 2023. This time, the site is Inkblot Art Academy, with the school evacuated (I mean, it gets partially flooded, so why wouldn't there be an evacuation?) and Grizzco's employees coming in to deal with the problem. With the arrival of the Salmonids, the sky turns a grim red, giving everything below a crimson hue. (Except for the Turf War and Anarchy Battle stages, which are still perfectly normal!)
With Inkopolis Plaza now available, it seems the phenomenon is also appearing over there too! Splatoon 1 didn't even have Salmon Run, so this must be quite a jarring occurrence for the citizens of Inkopolis...though Callie and Marie seem to be taking it all in stride. They've gone through worse things.
As per usual, Grizzco provides a trophy for everyone involved in Big Run as a token of appreciation for helping out, and, more importantly, collecting Golden Eggs. As the Cohozuna trophy was already given out, this time, there is a trophy of the Horrorboros, the second of the King Salmonids to be introduced into this game. The types of trophies, and the means of getting them, are the same. After Big Run ended, Grizzco ranked all employees by the highest number of Golden Eggs obtained in any job they participated in. The top 5% received the gold trophy, those below the top 5% but within the top 20% got the silver trophy, those below the top 20% but within the top 50% were handed the bronze trophy, and everybody else was awarded the green participation trophy.
The Horrorboros is a flying, elongated King Salmonid, resembling an electric eel (but, as a Salmonid, it still has salmon parts), much larger than the Cohozuna. It hovers above the stage and attacks mainly by charging a device in its mouth that launches a Booyah Bomb. Though it has higher total HP than the Cohozuna (the actual number varies based on your rank within Grizzco, with Eggsecutive VP players being presented with the most HP for Horrorboros), it's a larger target, it doesn't attack as often, and attacking the mass of swirling Salmonid ink in its mouth right before it sends out that Booyah Bomb will deal more damage to it than normal. The result is a King Salmonid that's either easier to deal with than the Cohozuna or harder, depending on the weapons used to fight it. Rollers, Brushes, and the Sploosh-o-matic will have a hard time actually hitting Horrorboros, or hitting it for meaningful damage, and depleting all of its HP becomes that much harder with even one such player stuck with such a disadvantageous weapon.
Though the Big Run ended on March 5th, 2023 at 4 PM PDT (7 PM EDT, midnight March 6th UTC, and 9 AM Japan Time), the results were not calculated until two hours later, upon which you're given your Horrorboros trophy. Surprisingly, the requirements to get particular trophies were higher than the first Big Run in Wahoo World:
Gold: 141 Golden Eggs
Silver: 117 Golden Eggs
Broze: 90 Golden Eggs
I honestly can't say why this is the case, considering Wahoo World usually had you start in the middle, so no one went too far from the egg basket, but Inkblot Art Academy, because its lowest areas are in the middle, has its egg basket in medium tide and high tide off to one side of the stage. As Big Run attracts the same reckless people as Splatfest does, this leads to a lot of people I was teamed up with wandering far from the egg basket, fighting Boss Salmonids and not collecting their eggs, and never coming close to the egg basket again. Along the way, I was demoted from Eggsecutive VP down to Profreshional +3, and I called it quits after I went down to 0 on the meter (meaning any Salmon Run job that doesn't make it to Wave 3 would demote me again), though along the way, I did get to see Horrorboros twice! I've kept both of those in this video as a record of what transpired.
