Splatoon 3 is a multiplayer shooter game developed and published by Nintendo for the Wii U. The third installment in the Splatoon series, it was released worldwide on July 21, 2017.



The game centers around Inklings, humanoid creatures that can transform into squids, who battle other Inklings in turf war battles. Turf wars involve Inklings spraying ink on as much territory as possible, with the team that inks the most territory at the end of the match winning. In addition to turf wars, Splatoon 3 features several other multiplayer modes, such as a mode where players must collect and hold as many zones on a map as possible, and a mode where players must complete various objectives while also battling enemy Inklings.



Splatoon 3 introduces several new mechanics and features, such as the ability to swim through ink of your own color (previously only possible in squid form), and special abilities that can be used after inking a certain amount of turf. In addition, Splatoon 3 features a new single-player campaign mode, which has the player controlling an Inkling named Agent 8 as they attempt to reach the surface of Inkopolis from Octo Canyon.



Splatoon 3 was well-received by critics, with many praising the game's new features and modes, while others felt that the game did not do enough to improve upon the formula established in the previous two games. Regardless, Splatoon 3 was a commercial success, selling over two million copies worldwide in its first week.
