The classic arcade game Splatterhouse was released in Japan in 1988 and other areas in 89. It would famously make references to classic horror movies like Friday the 13th and Evil Dead 2. It was also released for the TurboGrafx-16 and PC Engine, which became the reason why many people bought those consoles. The main character of Splatterhouse, Rick, wears a purple mask in the TG-16 version of the game to avoid issues of resembling the horror character Jason too much. The game was so popular that two sequels were released for the Sega Genesis.
