Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon: Part 1: An Eggcellent Journey into the Forgotten Worlds
The final Spyro the Dragon game before Insomniac Games gave up the franchise to move on to Ratchet & Clank, which is currently seen as their most popular franchise by the majority.
This game had a weird release approach. It was actually released too early in order to get some sales in from Christmas of 2000. This made it miss some songs and have a few glitches. This playthrough is based on the Greatest Hits version of the game with all of its intended songs put in and a few of its bugs squashed out. I'll keep noting this from time-to-time in different videos of my playthrough where this is relevant.
I recorded Spyro 1 from my PS3 using Dazzle, then I recorded Spyro 2 from my PS3 using Elgato. For Spyro 3, to make things easier, I simply played and recorded the game using an emulator called BizHawk. I have all of the videos for this playthrough ready to uploaded, so stay tuned as I do this from time to time.
-------------
Here's the story:
Previously, in Spyro 2, Spyro had defeated Ripto and saved the worlds of Avalar from his Rage. Spyro then used their superportal to return to the Dragon Worlds and take a vacation in Dragon Shores, like he wanted to do from the start after beating Gnasty Gnorc in Spyro 1.
Remember those pink Dragon Eggs from Spyro 1? They're back, and now they're bigger, white polka-dot eggs that are going to hatch soon since 2000 is the actual Chinese New Year of the Dragon. Spyro, a few elder dragons, and Hunter the Cheetah were sleeping, waiting for the eggs to hatch.
A young sorceress-in-training rabbit named Bianca appears from the holes in the ground to take the eggs alongside her rhino force called the Rhynocs. She would've done so perfectly had she not stepped on Hunter's tail and made him yell, waking everyone else up, including Spyro, himself. Bianca was still able to get away with the eggs.
Bianca works for an actual Sorceress, a big, fat, ugly blue toad that's planning something pretty wicked for the baby dragons.
According to one of the elder dragons, Bianca took the dragon eggs to the Forgotten Worlds. So they have Spyro, Hunter, and Spyro's dragonfly friend Sparx jump inside one of the holes to check the worlds out.
--------------
Similar to Spyro 1, but in a much greater quantity, the main goal of Spyro 3 is to collect all of the Dragon Eggs that Bianca, the Sorceress, and the Rhynocs have stolen and scattered all over these Forgotten Worlds, which hatch out cute baby dragons as soon as you find and interact with them. Hunter, Zoe the Fairy, and... ugh, Moneybags, all come back to help Spyro out with this...
Besides those three, this game has even more friends that will help, but you have to buy their freedom from Moneybags in a ransom-like deal, first. Speaking of that bear, he seems to have inexplicably changed his voice from British to Middle-Eastern... Hmmm...
------------
The first Homeworld is Sunrise Spring. All 4 homeworlds of this game base themselves on the different times of day, with this one taking place in the morning, though this also connects itself to the seasonal theming of Spyro 2's homeworlds, which lacked a "Spring" world, but had a "Summer" Forest, an "Autumn" Plains, and a "Winter" Tundra.
Collect both Eggs and Gems, the Eggs can unlock more levels, while you can use Gems to pay Moneybags. You can either get Eggs by finding them lying on the ground, or after completing tasks. I manage to find all of Sunrise Spring's eggs, including the one hiding in a Headbash-able rock.
------------
Sorry about that fade-out at 2:20. I didn't intend for that when I had to reassemble this video into what it is. That was only meant for the end of it. Anymore more you see prematurely were also accidental.
