Warning: Messing around with this glitch can completely wipe all your files.

If you call the menu before the Game Over screen appears, the game will load the pause menu and the overworld at the same time.
You want to pause as you jump to void out, preferably over water, so your life count decreases to 0 as you are in the pause menu. Now unpause and pause again just as the fading out animation starts. This will call the pause menu, which will be overwritten by the Game Over Screen. Then just press A or Start.

This completely destroys the visual standard of this game. However, so far it just seems to be a graphical thing (exceptions are some crashes when pressing A while the menu is still triggered. This can be avoided by holding L/R as this will deny any pause menu input, allowing you to walk around. Ultimately, by pausing once and "increasing the menu count" as there are 2 sparx now, and any input is doubled, you can "lock" the menu so after unpausing you are fully back in the normal game.)
The effect carries over loading screens, whether you locked it or not. Manual saving will most likely wipe your cartridge. Resetting or quitting the current game removes this glitch (as far as I could tell).

You can execute this trick consecutively which will increase the sparx ammount and speeds up the menu background animation. Additionally it seems to affect text positioning.
If you have a completed file, you can use the Sparx Panic portal to carry the effect over to any other save file.

I messed around with this on stream if you want to see more (just ignore the music):
