"stagger ninja" zealot build: darktide
2i had been having trouble with zealot in melee, felt weak and fragile by comparison to ogryn. switching from the heavy sword to the crusher made a big difference. the "long" combo is enjoyable: light, heavy, light light, repeat. this gives you 4 sweeps in a row, 3 light and 1 heavy.
after several difficult and unsuccessful clutch attempts using chorus and immolation grenades, i switched to a full right side build, with throwing knives, loner aura, and stealth. whereas many players probably use stealth for one-shot tweaker build, im mainly using it for pickups and occasional flanking of large groups of shooters.
another change is not taking the +2 wound skill, something i previously believed was a no-brainer. ultimately, you dont need extra wounds. i am generally the last player alive in a failed run, anyway, and cant remember a run where i actually ran out of wounds and died.
as with other zealot builds ive done, this one has no keystone. unless you are trying to juice crits down the left side, i dont think the zealot's keystones are very good. martyrdom is definitely terrible, and while momentum is ok, i don't like skills that provide an uncertain attack speed bonus, as you have to constantly readjust your melee timing based on how large or small the momentum bonus was each trigger.
like pretty much every other build ive run since the patch, this one cranks toughness, with every toughness node except the bugged one (any "last" toughness node for zealot is bugged and only gives 5 toughness, not 15), and 3 toughness curious. with around 200 toughness, i can absorb gunfire and regen effectively. for curio perks, i always take 3x20% gunner resistance. the rest is open-ended, tune as you like.
i decided to go ahead and take the bleed on crit and damage reduction on crit on the upper right branch. this synergizes with the stealth talent, since you can activate a crit on demand against a boss. gives you a second option against a boss, along with bolter spam.
the final point in 25% coherency regen could be spent elsewhere. i wanted to try a coherency bonus since loner aura is always on. but you could spend that point in +50% toughness on kill, taking the bonus from 5% to 7.5%. or you could spend it at the bottom and just take 10% health.
throwing knives are improved since the patch, with better accuracy. these are fun and effective against bombers, snipers, and trappers. a good compliment to the bolter, which has slow draw and reload speed. knives can kill snipers from very far away, which can be seen at 22:45.
since this build is proficient against all melee targets, you can take whatever gun is convenient for you. bolter spam makes crusher patrols and bosses faster. but you could use a revolver, vraks 7, or other stuff for swatting shooters. you could even use flamethrower, though i think that would be most redundant with the crowd control the crusher provides.
