Pigma, a former Star Wolf member, sent the distress signal and stole the core memory found at Katina from the Star Fox team. Radar tracked him to a space hideout where the Star Fox team meet a familiar rival.

I really push for a good time on this mission, as evident by the fact that I almost let the might gauge get full. This is actually one of my favorite on-foot missions, despite the might gauge. Very straightforward mission and a decent variety of enemies to fight. Such as shame Slippy is virtually worthless in this mission. He just stays in the same area of the map and doesn't even make an effort to help find transfer devices for you. Also, despite Falco saying for him and Krystal to go for battleships, they never actually go for them. This is a common problem with any mission that has an on-foot ally, though at least they're virtually indestructible.
