Star Fox Assault Playthrough (Gold Difficulty) Part 8
Orbital Gate
Another level I severely dislike because of the amount of enemy rapeage. There are so many green-missile-launching enemies, large green laser-launching enemies, and "overblown gnat" enemies flying around here, you can't fly straight for two seconds without having to do a loop to get one (or two.. or three...... or four) off your tail. Still, this was a decent run I guess, better than I normally do anyway.
Primary Mission:
Shoot down as many enemies as you can
Mission Update:
Protect the gate from several waves of missiles
Boss:
Giant 3 piece missile
Level Strategy for Badge:
Oddly enough, though this is an all-arwing level, your ship auto-aims this time. Therefore, you get combos here. Use the normal combo strategy here, but do NOT, unless you have to (i.e. save Slippy and Krystal) fly near the gate, as the closer you get to it, the more "Hit +1" enemies you encounter, such as the missile launchers, the large green laser shooters, and some Radar Jammer look-alikes. Though they are good for points, they still take a lot of shots to kill and can be really annoying when they chase you. I recommend sticking to the outer fringes of the level, and killing the gnat-ish enemies.
When you first start off, don't fly anywhere but straight, as there is a laser powerup just a few meters in front of where you start. Continue shooting random enemies until one drops another powerup to upgrade to blue lasers. Trust me, you'll need them when the missiles come in.
When the first wave of missiles -does- arrive, get there quickly, but continue to shoot enemies along the way so you won't lose your combo. Let Falco take down one missile, but you have to shoot the rest. Go for the third one to the right first, as it seems more "eager" than the rest, and is much farther ahead. Once you shoot that one down, you should start seeing green-laser Hit+1 enemies. If they tail you, do a loop and charge-shot them, and quickly return to the missiles.
When the second wave of missiles arrives, go around the left side of the gate to approach them, as the most eager one this time is the leftmost one. Take them out (shooting enemies between) and just continue the "shoot enemies, shoot missile" tactic as the bigger missiles come in. When the final one, the three-piece one, comes in, devote -all- of your firepower to it, because by now, you should have a combo that's well over 200, and if it runs out, it's okay because this thing is a jerkface to take down, thanks to its weird weak points.
Boss Strategy:
First, fly to the rear of the missile, for that is where the first weakpoint node is. Fire at the target until the rear section comes off, then make your way to the side of the missile, and fire at the pink area. The crosshairs might not lock onto it, so use your best judgement. Use a bomb if you have to. Once this piece is gone, fire at the pink area on the nose section until the missile is completely destroyed. Use the brake if you have to.
Be careful! Hit+1 enemies will rape your Arwing like no tomorrow, so keep your C-stick thumb ready. You can't simply barrel roll their attacks (while you're braking) to make them go away. If you do so, then they will eventually ram into your ship, causing major damage.
Difficulty: ****
No speed up effects in this one. Enjoy!
