STAR STRIKE (SEGA CD) (2000) - Longplay (uncommented)
STAR STRIKE is an FMV rail shooter for Sega CD - originally produced by Stargate and Sony Imagesoft. Due to the decline of the Sega CD, the game was never officially released in the mid-90s as initially planned. However, a company called Good Deal Games sold a limited amount of copies in 2000 (next to another previously unreleased Sega CD title called BUG BLASTERS - THE EXTERMINATORS - another FMV rail shooter by Sony and Stargate).
In STAR STRIKE, you control a rookie fighter pilot stationed on the Galatea spacecraft. Your mission: Destroy the evil alien Protoid Forces that threaten to exterminate humankind. The FMV rail shooter gameplay is in the vein of similar titles released for the Sega CD, such as MIDNIGHT RAIDERS, TOMCAT ALLEY, SURGICAL STRIKE, or BUG BLASTERS - THE EXTERMINATORS.
I do like the premise and atmosphere of this FMV space shooter. However, the gameplay and execution is very lacking. The repetitive and not very exciting space fights drag on forever and get old very quickly. I also hate the asteroid field intermission stages. They should have included more individual missions such as the on-planet sequence in stage 3. This would have greatly benefited the game. The battlecruiser and boss fights also leave a lot to be desired and have no real climax. Imho, STAR STRIKE is not as entertaining as MIDNIGHT RAIDERS or BUG BLASTERS - but still ok if you are into this kind of games.
This longplay is a no death run. It was recorded via emulation on PC (KEGA Fusion) using the NTSC version of the game and save states.
