17Today's Starship Spotlight is V'ger. V'ger is a mysterious and massive entity. In Star Trek: The Motion Picture, the starship USS Enterprise encounters a massive cloud-like entity on a collision course with Earth. This entity, known as V'ger, is revealed to be a sentient machine with incredible power.
It turns out that V'ger is actually the Voyager 6 probe, a fictional spacecraft launched by humans in the 20th century. It was found by a race of living machines that repaired and upgraded it to fulfill its mission: to learn all it can and return that knowledge to its creator. However, V'ger developed a consciousness and believed that its creator must be a machine, and thus struggled to reconcile its identity and purpose.
