This is a bit of home-made 'VR' using the Fighter Squadron mode in STAR WARS Battlefront, that you can view in (sort of) 3D using your own choice of VR goggles or Occulus type device. I picked up a pair of cardboard cutout VR glasses from a market in London back in July, for around a tenner, which really impressed me when I tried them out on the market stall holder's phone. They look a bit like this:

Unfortunately when I got them home I realised that my phone couldn't install the Google Cardboard app, looks like I'm missing a gyroscopey sensor or something. Still I can still use them for watching 3D videos on YouTube.

I say this is sort of 3D because it's two different versions of the same image rather than ones from slightly different perspectives to give the true illusion of 3D. Still, I think it works pretty well when I've tried it out on my phone. I don't normally play the fighter squadron part of the game in first person mode, but for a 3D video I thought it was the only way to go. It does take a bit of getting used to if you're someone who generally always plays third person view like I normally do. I do really like this game, but unfortunately I'm not particularly brilliant at it, so please don't bother with any gameplay critiques.

This is also a good point to mention that I absolutely hate the changes that EA and DICE made to the lock-on system in fighter squadron in one of the more recent updates (it needs to cool down now). It seems to be a very divisive change, with a lot of people, like me, who hate the change, and a lot of other people who are applauding it. What really fucks me off about this though is the fact that publishers are now able to alter the content of a game that you've already bought without your consent. We've all had experience of game patches that normally are designed to fix bugs and generally improve the game experience, but this is the first time I've encountered an update that has actually changed the gameplay mechanic of a game I own and in doing so made it less enjoyable for me.

My PC:
Intel core i5-2310 @2.90GHz - 8 GB
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 - 2 GB
Windows 7 Home Premium
