That is a difficult question to answer because the Star Wars prequels are clouded in so much nostalgia for me.
Episode I was released when I was only 4 years old and I remember hearing people talk about it. I had no clue what Star Wars was or what it was about, but I remember people playing with Darth Maul lightsabers and seeing all the Star Wars merchandise in the stores.
So although I started to really pay attention to Star Wars and watch the films and play the video games when I was about 11 years old (one year after Revenge of the Sith), my very first introduction to Star Wars was all the hype to the Phantom Menace.
And eventually seeing it as a kid, I was amazed by the world that the Phantom Menace gave to us. I thought the Naboo starfighters were amazing, the lightsaber battles were so cool, and the podrace was an epic thrill ride.
Still to this day, I love all that stuff. However, now being an adult, I look for more things in my movies like character, story and emotional investment. Does Star Wars Episode I have any of that?
