3Quick review of Star Wars Pinball for the Nintendo Switch.
Hey now Pinball Wizards, Matt Heywood here to review Zen Studios’ Star Wars Pinball for the Nintendo Switch, or what I like to call my own personal arcade on the go!
Star Wars Pinball for the Switch is an ideal game for Star Wars fans on the go, and it isn’t just a lazy port of the tables from other platforms either.
Zen Studios added all sorts of new features to this version of Star Wars Pinball, which include my personal favorite way to play, Vertical Mode, which allows you to hold the Switch in a vertical fashion so you get more real estate to see the full tables you’re playing on.
Other new additions include a mini-game-esque Career Mode, which features hundreds of challenges that are fairly quick to complete, and are very ideal for playing on the go, or for short sessions. There’s also a new Faction system to see if you lean towards the Dark or Light sides of the Force, and finally, there are gameplay modifiers in the form of unlockable and upgradeable, Force Powers and Talents.
These can be toggled for use while playing most modes, and can help increase your score, or change how the ball rolls, so they do offer interesting new ways to play and score in Star Wars Pinball.
Outside of the new additions, all of the classic Star Wars Pinball modes are also present, so League Play, Tournaments, and Single Player high scores are all still in the mix.
The true joy of this game though are the 19 unique Star Wars themed tables, which cover most of the films, as well as the more iconic characters and moments.
I found myself just wanting to do flyovers of the tables, because if you haven’t played them before on other platforms, their intricacies are a treat to behold. Everything from the scenes that can be activated to the art and mechanics of each table is true to the film or character they represent, so it’s hard not to feel like you’re in the Star Wars universe while playing.
For $29.99 I do believe you get value with Star Wars Pinball for the Switch, most notably because it essentially offers limitless gameplay. There’s really nothing to beat unless you master hundreds of levels of the Career Mode, so you can technically dabble with this game until your Switch blows up.
If you’ve always wanted to give Star Wars Pinball a try on other platforms, but could never pull the trigger, then take this dedicated Switch version as your chance to take the 19 Star Wars themed tables for a spin. It’s a 9 out of 10 type of game, and highly recommended for Star Wars fans and predominantly mobile gamers.
