This is my play through of Starcraft Remastered Brood War with some random commentary. Sometimes you won't even notice I'm there.

Terran Mission 8 - To Chain the Beast

Following Duran's betrayal and abrupt departure, Admiral Dugalle and the Captain pick up the remaining pieces the UED Fleet held, and pressed on with their mission of taming the fledgling Overmind on Char. The Psi Disruptor that Vice Admiral Stukov gave his life defending turned out to be the key that would turn the tide in favor of the UED. Despite the heavy blows to morale coming from the death of Stukov, and Mengsk escaping from their grasp on Aiur, the UED Fleet quickly regains its momentum.

Using the Psi Disruptor back on Braxis to target Char, they gain passage past the vast majority of the Zerg Swarm's defenses and land close by the fledgling Overmind. The advantage the Psi Disruptor gave them was nothing short of miraculous, but getting to the Overmind itself was another challenge the UED Fleet needed to overcome, however.

The Overmind was guarded by several hives led by Cerebrates who each possessed unique traits. One had a unique strain of Ultralisk that could tear through Terran troops and defenses. Another made the defensive colony structures of the Zerg immortal. Using strategy maneuvers to bypass the defenses and strike at the Cerebrates, the Captain was able to overcome the Overmind's guardians and clear the way for medics armed with special drugs to sedate the Overmind.

Having taken control of the Overmind, the UED's victory over the Zerg is undeniable. The UED quickly uses their accomplishment to spread propaganda to garner support for their military campaign and instill confidence in the dominance of humankind against powerful alien adversaries. Vice Admiral Stukov's death was even portrayed as a heroic sacrifice in the battle against the Zerg when the reality of it was that Admiral Dugalle allowed himself to be deceived and inadvertently made mistakes that cost the life of a dear old friend and comrade in arms.

Given that taming the Overmind is all part of a giant experiment that has never been done before, what stood to be gained from researching the Zerg closer than ever before seemed like a new frontier for Terran science. The story of Starcraft Brood Wars from the Terran perspective ends here and picks up with the Zerg.
