Starcraft Remastered Recorded in Oct. 2023

This is my play through of Starcraft Remastered Brood War with some random commentary. Sometimes you won't even notice I'm there.

Zerg Mission 5- True Colors

The UED's power has been greatly reduced by the losses they sustained on Korhal and Kerrigan decides it's time to move on to phase two of her plans. With Korhal back under Mengsk's control, the UED's only remaining major presence in the sector is on Char, where they are experimenting with the tamed Overmind to exert control over the Zerg.

Though the UED is undoubtedly the highest priority on Kerrigan's list because of their pet Overmind's competing ability to control Zerg, the allies that Kerrigan used to score a win over the UED also needed to be dealt with before they became a threat to her. While she did not seem to care much about letting them be, the infested Duran serving as her lieutenant was the one who brought up the subject and made it an issue to be immediately handled.

The alliance with Raynor and Mengsk was made out of necessity, and while some semblance of trust might have formed, the Terran leaders would always be looking over their shoulders for the first sign of betrayal by the Queen of Blades. It was a matter of not if but when Kerrigan would betray them.

Having just scored a decisive victory over the UED, the Terran and Protoss allies weren't expecting a betrayal right away. Taking a moment to celebrate and catch their breath, the Protoss forces led by Fenix and the Dominion forces led by General Duke were caught off guard when Kerrigan ordered her attack on her former allies. Though they regained their composure after a few minutes, the damage sustained gave Kerrigan a great head start that put the two forces on the defensive.

Kerrigan believed that Mengsk would be of little threat with his pet general out of the picture, and understood Fenix to be a resourceful individual that could possibly pose a big nuisance if allowed to continue fighting alongside Raynor. While these calculations were not exactly off, she is essentially allowing the leaders to live. Wanting Mengsk to suffer by allowing him to live and witness his ambitions failed as part of revenge seemed understandable, but allowing Raynor to live seemed to hint that there is some soft spot that the merciless Queen of Blade still has even if it's just towards one man.

Mengsk was visibly upset with Duke's death, but the man was no stranger to breaking deals for personal gain. This time Kerrigan turned the tables on Mengsk and gave him a taste of his own medicine, wanting the self-proclaimed Emperor to live and witness the calamity he was responsible for creating in his self-serving quest for political power.

Fenix's death crossed a line with Raynor as they had become good friends through the many battles they've fought together and survived. Kerrigan casually dismisses Raynor's anger by stating the Protoss's second and final death was giving him what he and every Protoss wanted, an honorable death in battle. Raynor didn't agree and swore that he'd be the one to kill Kerrigan some day for she has killed too many good people for her quest to gain power.

When the battle was over, Kerrigan strangely breathes a sigh of relief, saying that for the first time since her transfiguration into the Queen of Blades, overflowing with power, that she was weary of the slaughter and wanted to recover back on Tarsonis.
