Starfield on a potato PC Part 01 Testing testing
IMPORTANT NOTE: This video is not to mock the game in any way or make any accusations as to the quality of Bethesda's work, etc. It is simply my approach to be able to play the game at launch because I have been a huge fan of TES and Fallout games for many years, that is why I am very excited to check out their completely new franchise... in space!
You have probably seen many weird screenshots showing how Starfield looks like on lowest settings, etc. Most of them are probaly uploaded by trolls who use "potato graphics" mods and settings to simply make fun of the game to jump on the bandwagon. My playthrough is nothing like that. This is my genuine attempt to play the game, without trying to break it or search for bugs and glitches. This is how the game looks if you have a "weaker" GPU. My specs are as follows:
Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 6GB
Intel Core i5-7400 CPU 3.00 GHz
24 Gigs of RAM
Although those are not "weak" specs (I have been able to play any game that has been released so far), I have been so far unable to play Starfield without major performance issues.
Thus, this is HOW THE GAME ACTUALLY LOOKS on lower settings, with a texture mod installed.
First of all, I tried playing this immediately after installation and it proved to be very demanding for my PC. Mind you that I am able to play Cyberpunk 2077 on high, any newest Assassin's Creed games, Atomic Heart and more without any struggle, but this game... that is another story. I did a test play for several hours and noticed that my PC would not be able to maintain a stable gameplay no matter the setting. That is when I tried to find help on Nexus mods and found a mod that alters the game textures so that they put less strain on your PC. Namely: https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/510?tab=description
After the installation, I noticed a major improvement in general performance of the game. Still had to play it on low, but at least I could play it without major freezes every dozen of seconds. Here is then how the game looks if you have a "weaker" PC. I do not consider my PC weak, but Starfield and Bethesda are a different story, right?
