Stealth ATF (NES) any% speedrun in 17:14 [WR]
Played on emulator (Mesen 0.9.9). This run is subject to the rules of the leaderboard at https://www.speedrun.com/stealth_atf. Note: any% is defined as completion of the 1st 8 missions (1 "loop").
Practice seems to be paying off with a slight change of strategy: going head-to-head repeatedly (cross pattern) using missiles for quick high-percentage takedowns. This also increases overall chance of taking damage for bonus skip, though it's not guaranteed. You may be able to delay your attack (or not attack at all) in some cases to increase your odds of taking damage but decrease your odds of the takedown (note: late missiles are likely to miss).
Caught the only bonus of the run on M5 (short one -- finished w/ 6 ticks remaining) resulting in ~25 seconds lost. Also, encountered some low alt shenanigans on M8, but it was still a fast one. Getting a run under 16 minutes is possible but would require some really tight missions and not much going wrong. I should be able to cut off at least 30 seconds without a lot more investment, but runs are so volatile that I could cut off a huge chunk in a single run. I'll give it one more go and then decide to play or pass from there.
