CHAPTERS/TIMESTAMPS:
00 Steph Curry postgame Cavs on if he agrees with Steve Kerr that the starters played their best in Q3 tonight and on what has caused the starters to struggle a little bit more to start off the season: “I don't know the answer to the second question because I feel like it would help us correct the issue. I noticed mostly just our defense and specifically fouling and stuff that’s plagued us for awhile, like small sample size but starting to set a pattern of not getting off to a great start. There's a problem so we gotta correct it. But we're competitors. We have pride and down whatever it was at halftime, down 16 at halftime and fight our way back, hold them to 16 in the third, that shows we have it in us. We just have to do it and execute and come with a better edge to start games. Our bench has been great, for the most part, over the course of these 10 games and has given us a lot of juice and gotten us back into games, protected leads, built on leads. They’ve done pretty much everything so we gotta be better.”
43 on pinpointing the biggest struggle against a team like the Cavs, whom they’ve lost to twice in the past week: “We gave up 43 free throws. I know there's probably six of those at the end of the game. But crucial times when you're starting to build momentum, you put them on the foul line, which plays right into how they want to play their tall athletic team. So if you're playing against set defenses or taking the ball out of the basket off of free throws and they're able to see you coming, like that plays right into their hands. So I think we talked about that coming into the game, but just didn't do it. I think we talked about it, like their style is completely different to ours and we allowed them to play their type of game. In the NBA you’re not gonna be able to out-shoot a team every night and overcome those mental errors. No matter how hard we fought in the third, it's kind of a tough way to lose.”
04 on if he likes the upcoming MIN-MIN OKC-OKC home set: “I mean, it’s as close to the playoffs, before you're able, that you can get. But those in-game adjustments and game-to-game, just the looks. I think like last week when we were in OKC and then went to Cleveland, there's two different styles of play and you have to make adjustments with the regular season, how it challenges you. So for us, especially with the in-season tournament on Tuesday against Minnesota, it’ll test us to execute and bring focus on the adjustments that we need to make, what's our game plan going into Sunday, knowing that however that game shakes out, there's gonna be adjustments before Tuesday. And I think it tests more the mental than the physical. So it'll be kind of a good measuring stick on where we are, especially those two teams. Minnesota is playing great, so they're gonna be a tough opponent. OKC is capable of beating anybody on a given night, so we want to protect our home court. That's what the six-game stretch is about. We're off to a not-so-good start, so it'll be a good challenge for us.”
30 on having the right energy to start: “You have to be professional. However long after the game, coming to the podium, all the stuff that you do after the game to get your body starting that recovery process. We're gonna wash this one down the drain. I talked about it when we left Denver. Just because we're home doesn't mean you can show up and win, especially with the talented teams that are coming in here. So we usually respond well to this type of feeling when you lose and, again, coming in understanding what it takes to execute the details of our game plan against a certain team. And that'll be a challenge for tomorrow, especially for that starting unit to get off to a good start.”
32 on if losing at Chase bothers them at all: “Oh, absolutely. You hate leaving the court without the win and not taking advantage of the energy in the building. Again, we have a pride around how we protect our home court. A long season, another opportunity, that’s the beauty of the NBA, we say. We’ve got another game tomorrow to kind of rectify the situation.”
12 on Cory Joseph’s behind-the-scenes impact: “…presence about him. I don't want to dump on his skill and talent and why he's double-digit-year veteran to just his presence, but that's a huge part of who he is and how he approaches being a professional and being prepared and coming to practice every day with the right energy…”
30 Steve Kerr on Anthony Edwards from pregame GSW-Minnesota
