This video is going to help you help yourself or a loved one defuse and lessen the anxiety, anger, outburst and reactions associated with BPD episodes. Diffusing this situation is not a one and done deal, but something you can learn and do when needed.

First, remain calm, use strategies to help you relax. Recognize you’re been triggered or your emotional buttons have been pressed. If you’re going to interact with someone who is triggered, calm yourself before interacting with the person.

Remain or become aware of your situation. Be present focused.

Try to look as non-threatening as possible.

Use active listening. Acknowledge the other person’s feelings without passing judgment on them.

Adjust the conversation to focus on the future and working together.
