In this chapter, the East Coast Killer continues to play his deadly game of cat-and-mouse with Paloma Hernandez, who turns out to be intelligent enough to brave more and more of his traps, only to fall head first into the next one when salvation already seems close at hand. Arriving at the scene of the abduction a little while later, Victoria discovers that both the criminal and his prey are already gone, leaving behind a huge decrepit house to comb for clues... and a local sheriff who seems to show fairly little happiness at the idea of having to work with the FBI.
