ST:O FPS Benchmark - Space
0I made this video to show how the UI in Star Trek Online is incredibly unoptimized, to the point where it cuts my FPS by 2/3rds. Now, my computer isn't the best, and you'll see this if you watch a few of my minecraft videos. But this brings up complications even for the best of computers. An unoptimized UI demands more processing power, even if your PC is quite good and you don't see it in the form of framerate drops. For example, Star Trek Online is no stranger to overheating issues, and this could be one of the causes of that.
This is an exploration space mission, and thankfully, I got dumped into a map that doesn't have framerate issues in itself on my computer (some of the asteroid heavy maps as well as star systems with certain nebula/galaxy backgrounds do). Prior to today, I wasn't even aware that I could achieve the framerate I got with the UI off, and the ship turning felt so smooth.
Like my previous video on the subject, the FPS graph is on so you can see the effects the UI have on my framerate. It's not the full mission, as me flying around in a circle scanning objects isn't very interesting.
