I am using Multiplan the second time, the first time I am using it to do something serious.

I start to build a basic stock performance chart which can give simple ideas on how firms might perform over the long term horizon.

Multiplan was the first spreadsheet from Microsoft and the first spreadsheet on the Macintosh. As with other Macintosh programs from 1984, it has a very modern user interface and there are many build in features, like an online manual that help the user.

It is however the features compared to Lotus 1-2-3 where there are some very annoying problems. Lotus had a menu driven interface too, which was very comfortable to control from the keyboard so the mouse driven interface does not make a big different. However the intelligent formulas from Lotus and Visicalc are missing from Multiplan which is huge sore point. The other thing that makes it less effective is the column/row addressing method which requires more keypresses (and in my opinion more attention) than the method used by other spreadsheets.
