There are many Shmup companies where you wonder: Are they still alive or exist only as a husk for licensing purposes? G.Rev are alive. They have been doing development jobs for other companies in the past couple of years, Yurukill (The Shmup parts, not the VN parts) and Ninja Kamui have been their contributions, and now they are re-releasing one of their earlier greats: Strania, but this time EXtra.
The Extras they brought to the EXA only version are now here in Switch form, and published by G.Rev themselves so each purchase is not going to fund a holding company or the next Guilty Gear, but an actual Shmup developer.
And the game is still good, it sees the player going through 7 stages of blasting through enemy waves with a changeable arsenal in their mech hands. But G.Rev being G.Rev, there is style and little flourishes around every corner, each stage feeling unique and filled with set pieces to blast the player away as well as the evil empire. What I show is also only half the game, there is the DLC included which sees the story being played out from the Vower side, the enemy side. Which I definitely will tackle at one point.
