알렉스

스트리트 파이터 3 시리즈의 주인공. 초기 스파 3의 부제인 '뉴 제너레이션(New Generation)'은 새 주인공인 그를 가리키는 의미이기도 하다. 모티브는 머슬 보머와 슈퍼 머슬 보머에서 등장하는 장기에프의 후배인 알렉세이 잘라조프. 티셔츠를 찢는 등장씬이라든가, 세컨드 임팩트, 서드 스트라이크에서의 휴고와의 이벤트 등에서 헐크 호건이 연상되기도 한다.

198cm/105kg(스트리트 파이터 3 기준)의 거한으로 원래는 레슬러. 아버지의 친구인 톰에게서 사사했다. 톰이 길에게 당해 중태에 빠지자, 복수를 위해 스트리트 파이트에 뛰어들었다. 이후에는 철저하게 격투에 빠져들어 복수가 끝났음에도 강자를 찾아 방랑한다. 캡콤 시크릿 파일에 따르면 본신의 실력이 상당히 뛰어나 동년배 중에는 상대가 없다고 할 정도이고, 샤돌루의 사천왕이었던 마이크 바이슨을 롱 훅 일발로 KO한 적도 있다고 한다. 현재 뉴욕 맨하탄에 거주 중이다. 성격은 말수가 적고 무뚝뚝하지만 하고 싶은 말은 돌려 말하지 않고 확실하게 해버리는 타입이라 가끔 막말(...) 비슷한 대사가 나오기도 하지만 류처럼 자신이 인정한 강자에 대해서는 솔직하게 칭찬을 하기도 한다.

스트리트 파이터 5 시점에서는 스트리트 파이트에 뛰어들기 이전의 레슬러 시절. 스파 3에서 세계를 돌며 강자를 찾아 떠돌기 이전이다. 트레일러 하우스에서 거주하고 있으며 뉴욕에서 태어나 한번도 뉴욕을 벗어나 본적이 없다고 한다. 만사에 시큰둥하고 흥미를 가지고 있는 것도 없어서 톰이 이런 알렉스를 걱정하고 있다는 듯.

톰의 딸 패트리샤와 사이가 좋은데, 패트리샤는 아직 어린 소녀라서 이 때문에 일부에서는 로리콘으로 불리기도 한다. 물론 연애관계도 아니고 나이차이 많이 나는 친구 비슷한 입장이라 그냥 웃자고 하는 소리. 패트리샤는 알렉스를 애칭으로 알렉이라고 부른다. 서드 스트라이크에서 패트리샤가 성장함에 따라 키잡 소리도 듣기도 했다.

근래에는 존재감 없음 기믹(...)과, 스파 3의 캐릭터들 중 다수가 참전한 스파 4 시리즈에서 엄연한 전작 시리즈의 주인공이었음에도 불구하고 참전하지 못한 것으로 인한 비인기 기믹(...)이 흥해 어떤 의미에선 인기 캐릭터인데, 당시 스파 5 신참전 캐릭터 앙케트에서도 꾸준히 순위권을 지키고 있으며 알렉스의 스파 5 참전을 바라는 스파 팬들도 많을 정도로 인기가 대단했다. 캐릭터성 자체도 근래에는 재평가받는 분위기인데, 1997년 당시엔 덩치만 큰 촌스러운 캐릭터라는 평이 많았지만 지금은 중후한 맛이 있는 거인 캐릭터라는 호의적인 평이 더 많을 정도. 시대를 앞서간 디자인이라기보다는, 적당히 수수한 맛을 잘 살렸지만 초기 스파 3는 최종 보스인 길을 포함한 11명이라는 슈퍼 스파 2 X보다 줄어들은 볼륨이었고 알렉스는 주인공이었다. 춘리, 가일, 달심, 블랑카처럼 강력했던 초기 스파 2 캐릭터들의 임팩트보다 전반적으로 얌전해진 상황에서 주인공을 맡기에는 모자람이 있었다. 어떻게 보면 스파 4의 아벨이랑 비슷한 느낌인데 아벨도 그냥 적당히 잘 묻혀서 지나간 것처럼 스파 3의 세대교체나 캐릭터 배분, 숫자가 적절했다면 괜찮았을 것 같다는 얘기가 많다.


Alex

Alex (アレックス Arekkusu?) is a video game character from the Street Fighter series, first appearing in Street Fighter III: New Generation and that he had served as the main protagonist of the Street Fighter III sub-series. He is an American from New York who enters the third World Warrior tournament after its sponsor, Gill, seriously injures his best friend and father figure, Tom.


Personality

Often crass and abrasive, Alex's boldness tends to land him in deep trouble; he is also prone to violent outbursts of extreme aggression, especially if the people he loves are threatened. He is also very straightforward and refuses to mince words, especially when it comes to his confidence in his abilities. At times, this desire to prove himself can overwhelm his common sense, leading to very dangerous situations that test the very limits of his fighting capabilities.

Despite this, Alex does have a softer side that he only shows to people he cares about (such as Tom and his daughter Patricia) and/or hold in high regard (like Ryu).

After defeating Gill during the events of Street Fighter III and 2nd impact, Alex became slightly more humble and toned down his hard tongued insults in favor of actually evaluating his opponent and offering them advice when possible, excluding characters like Urien, Gill and sometimes Yun and Yang due to being evil, overly cocky or both in Urien's case.


Fighting style

Alex fights using wrestling and kickboxing; he makes good use of a good amount of professional wrestling maneuvers and throws, and also uses a powerhouse variation of street brawling and kickboxing. Many of his techniques revolving around maneuvering and positioning about the arena, all the while using his bulk, strength and speed to his advantage.


Trivia

◾Alex is the second reigning Street Fighter champion in the main series' current timeline, the first being Ryu.

◾In the SFIII Q&A from Gamest's SFIII Fanbook, Alex's favorite move is stated to be the back drop.

◾The book also states that he thinks about his parents from time to time, but still sees Tom and Patricia as his own flesh and blood family.

◾In the US translation of the Street Fighter III New Generation and Second Impact instruction manual, Alex is depicted as a former enlisted US Army soldier who lives with Tom after having moved out from his family's home at a young age.

◾Alex is the only playable American character in the Street Fighter III series to speak English in-game.

◾Ken is American but speaks Japanese in-game (and prior to 3rd Strike, codeswitches, speaking some English and Japanese).

◾Both Ken and Alex are also the only American playable characters in the Street Fighter III series.

◾In Makoto's 3rd Strike ending, Alex can be seen among the fighters defeated by Makoto.

◾Alex's car in Street Fighter V is based on Daihatsu Feroza's 1994 model.

◾Alex is the only character besides Ryu that has ever been branded as the protagonist.

◾Alex is 17 years old in Street Fighter V.
