Streets of Rage 3 (US Ver.): Stage 3 (Axel, "Normal")
I'd say that as far as regional differences go, Stage 3 doesn't show off too much.
But remember, those Electra and Soozie enemies wear less clothes and show more skin in the Japanese version. The Electras end up being less colorful, while the Soozies move around more seductively.
But what both versions of Stage 3 do still have in common are their setting. It's at a construction site where Axel and his team go to investigate for the missing Chief of Police, because SOMEHOW, Axel had kidnapped him, even though he knows that he didn't.
Watch out for the bouncing barrels in this stage. Since this isn't Donkey Kong, dodging them isn't flexible as just jumping over them. You can, however, punch them away and towards enemies.
There are also bottomless pits, here. Unlike in Streets of Rage 1, you won't lose a life falling into them. You'll still lose a huge chunk of health, though. Regardless, throwing punks into them will kill them immediately.
You'll notice a sound that hits as soon as this stage starts. That's because I managed to get another star on my health bar. This upgrades Axel's long-distance Grand Upper/Bare Knuckle B special into a spinning Dragon Wing. If I lose a life, I'll lose my second start and this B special will downgrade back to the long-distance Grand Upper. If this happens again, I'll lose my last star and can only use the original short-ranged Grand Upper. Again, you can still upgrade this again, or you can use the Z button on a 6-pad controller with a command motion to use any of these B specials anyway.
----------
The second part of this level has you outrun a punk using a bulldozer. You can't destroy the bulldozer, but you can knock it back with your attacks.
There's actually a regional difference in this part. The American version made this section slightly harder where there are slightly more walls to break through, and the bulldozer itself originally took just one hit to back off rather than the few that I have to do, here.
----------
The 3rd and last section of this level is on a huge elevator. It's more like the one from Streets of Rage 1 rather than the several in Streets of Rage 2. That said, you can easily get knocked off the side, but this also means you can do the same to the enemies.
Once you've reach the top, you finally find out the confusions with Axel and how he kidnapped the Chief of Police.
Turns out that this was the cause of a fake Axel! This boss almost fights exactly like Axel, but as you keep damaging him, you'll notice that he'll start to turn red...
Then right when you defeat him, the fake Axel actually blows up! This fake was a robot! One that meant to frame Axel for a crime he didn't commit, so that the rest of the police force would be tricked into arresting him and the rest of the Brawlers!
Robot copies don't bode well, here, especially since the threat of the nuclear bombs are still at large...
