While out exploring abandoned mines in the desert, I ended up sliding my 2006 Corolla into a ditch and getting stuck. Because I was miles from the nearest paved road and had no cell phone service whatsoever, I had to break out my SPOT beacon and activate it. I've never had to use my SPOT beacon in an emergency before, so I was curious as to how the whole scenario would play out. Just over two hours later at 8:30 PM the county Search and Rescue Team arrived onsite and was able to winch my car out of the ditch. I decided to record the whole experience from start to finish so you can see firsthand what it's like to activate a SPOT beacon in an emergency when stranded in the middle of nowhere. Literally.
