The abandoned Witch Creek Mine dates back to the late 1800s and had three bottomless pits in it which was a little unusual for a mine of this size. The first section of this mine was dug through some very unstable rock which required extensive timbering to prevent collapse. The 100+ year old timbers are still in place but are sagging and bowing considerably which makes them dangerously close to collapse. For that reason, this was one of the more dangerous mines I've been in.
