Support me on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/smartwargames When the sonar station received the diffuse transient of opening muzzle doors and without any bearings on Malakov´s Typhoon, Zenko believed it was to late to stop the attack. He accelerated but opening muzzle doors meant they already have passed all security measures in place prior of a nuclear attack launch.
Then suddenly an explosion prevented the Typhoon from launching its ordnance. For a second Zenko believed a greater might decided to intervene in order to stop the world from descending into chaos or an unbelieveable "lucky" malfunction preventing what could be possible world war 3.
But Zenko didn´t believe in this options... A malfunction right now? Unlikely. Either courageous crew members on the Typhoon stopped Malakov from unleashing Armageddon or this was sabotage, perhaps even prepared before they set sail. Somebody at base may have come up with a way smarter plan to stop Malakov than Zenko.
Zenko wanted to investigate what happened to the Donskoy but was interrupted by an Akula class speeding with flank speed towards their position. Is this the Gray Ghost boat that was sent to trail and destroy him? Zenko had to face a tough decision, the Akula was coming right at him, allowing another submarine getting so close is an unbelieveable risk as when they decide to launch a torpedo - from that distance - there is not much what can you safe. Zenko was about to launch two wire-guided torpedoes and probably a Skval high velocity torpedo at the incoming Akula but then he had to think about the souls on that boat. Hundreds of seamen - many he kney personally for years - just executing their orders without knowing what the heck is going on in the world and with their commanding officer.
There was also the chance that the Akula also heard the explosion on the Typhoon and came to help and safe potential survivors. This would also explain the way too high speed of them. Perhaps they aren´t even part of the coup.
But on the other hand when they slow down and pick up Zenko´s Akula on sonar and launch an torpedo, there is nothing he can do other than answering the attack and pulling the opponent´s boat with his submarine into certain death.
In the end Zenko didn´t launch the torpedoes and the Akula blinded by flank speed passed them dangerously close. The Americans seemed also to successfully evade any confrontation with the incoming Akula. Zenko wondered what the crew of the Virginia is making out of the situation right now.
However the danger ist not over, an ELF message sent by Loyalists from the naval base, revealed to Zenko, that thy´re preparing another Typhoon. Zenko must immediately return and stop it.
Commander Zenko would prefer to end this situation without the need to launch weapons against his own comrades but he has the bad feeling that the last face-off will require him to cover his hands in blood.
