PREVIOUSLY:
Accompanied by Commander Kraze's right hand man Kanaan, Tir and his party make their way to Mt. Seifu after learning that the bandits settled there have been stealing from the villagers in Rockland.
Along their way up the mountain however, they encountered a Queen Ant, which they have a hard time defeating. Seeing no other options, Ted unleashes a dark wave, which immediately disposes their foe. Tir and the others were surprised by what they had witnessed, while Ted promises that he'll explain once they return to Gregminster.
Continuing on, they manage to defeat the bandits, along with their leaders Varkas and Sydonia. The group returns to Rockland, with Kanaan reaping all the praise and rewards from their mission, to the party's disgust.
Upon returning to Gregminster, Kanaan requests that Ted comes along to the castle with him, while the others return home to rest. It's already night time, the group wonders what is taking Ted so long. Tir finds him lying on the entrance, filled with wounds inflicted by magic. They carry Ted to bed and tend to his wounds until he regains consciousness.
Tir and the others learn about the story of Ted, a man who has been carrying the Cursed Rune "Soul Eater" for 300 years, guarding it from a witch, who happens to be Windy, the Court Magician. She learned from Kanaan that Ted wields the cursed rune, evidenced by the incident in Mt. Seifu.
Worried that they might cause trouble for General Teo for harboring a fugitive, Pahn lies to them, stating that he'll go buy medicine for Ted, but reports to Kraze instead. The imperial guards barges in, demanding Tir and the others to surrender Ted to them, but not before Ted transfers his Soul Eater onto Tir, which he vows to protect it with his life.
Ted surrenders himself to Kraze, not knowing that the cursed rune is no longer with him. Tir and the others used the opportunity to escape, taking shelter inside the town's inn.
