Hello again folks! I said I'd do more blazing chrome but I wanted to clear more of my backlogs.

Today we have Super Cyborg aka a very challenging run n' gun inspired by konami's classic contra series. I saw an all bosses video for the game and thought this game would be easy, I was proven wrong the moment I tried hard.

Plot is shown in the games description in steam
You play as super cyborg and are tasked to investigate an island filled with alien abominations. The alien life form "Xirxul life form", has suddenly been awakened by unwitting scientists. Xirxul now plans to wreak havoc across earth.

On to the game, it controls just like contra with the addition of a charge shot and standing still while shooting. The charge shot is super helpful as well in the event you lose your weapon.

The weapons are pretty much the same in contra, which means the spread shot is the best weapon hands down.

The levels are pretty long but they do have a lot of depth in them and each stage has it's own unique environment (except it's not very linear in a way).

My personal favorite is the last stage itself, it's really grotesque as everything from the floor to the walls are organic. You even reach a downward slope composed of human remains and then get chased by a boulder of human remains. The eye balls in the walls are pretty creepy too!

The music is pretty rad too, Darkman007 has made great compositions for super cyborg!

On to the difficulty, much like contra, the moment you lose a weapon you need for a specific stage or boss means trouble as recovery can be hard. The charge shot makes up for it but the game constantly bombards the players with aliens from left to right. The 2nd boss alone is already RNG unless you kill it fast enough.

The 4th boss, oh boy the 4th boss, it first makes you fight a fly caught in a web then the spider boss. Now if you manage to dodge the first barrage then you're home free. However the gaps in the first barrage are so tight that squeezing through requires a good amount of timing or you get hit, I can't tell you how many times I lose the spread shot in the 4th boss.
The rest of the bosses though are pretty balanced and offer just the right amount of challenge.

The game only has 7 levels but the difficulty starts to bend in the 5th level when it throws you bubbles with homing bullets. Level 6 is okay but it's just very slow, there's also one cheap enemy placement (the spinning ball next to the red crawlers that shoot bullets).

The final boss on the other hand has you fight about 3 forms and then the true final boss in which you have to be quick before the screen gets filled with those pink floating fleshy ball things. I got extremely lucky because of the amount of lives I've saved however I still choked very badly.

Overall, it's a classic but tough run n' gun, it makes konami's contra titles for the NES look like a cake walk. It's got butter smooth animation and a catchy and upbeat soundtrack. Would recommend if you're looking for a challenging run n' gun!
