Super Freaks 1 Ultimate Edition (Pre-Alpha 22)
Accidentally posted the wrong video instead of this one, sorry about the double upload. Anyway, I've been hard at work and now have one pretty much complete level layout and another half done. In order of what's shown here I'll elaborate on them:
Fruit Juice Factory
--This was the first level in the original version of the game. Rather than just copy paste the layout I decided to give it a brand new one! Currently I have only one "gimmick", that being the swinging orange slice platforms, but towards the end of the level I'd also like to introduce lemonade acid as an intro to platforming over a hazard. I think the first section of the level is pretty much solid, but the second has kind of an awkward flow to it, and I think I need to introduce another gimmick here to spice things up and maybe pace it faster. My mind keeps circling around juice geysers or pineapple platforms that rocket into the air. It's a bit tricky though because this is the first "real" level, so I also can't go too crazy with what gimmick I add.
Skyway Highway
--The level layout is a lot more refined now. I extended the third (vertical) section to include some extra platforming, and I'm glad I did. A casual run of the level is around 2 minutes and 30 seconds, but you can also complete it in less than two minutes on a speedrun. I think that's pretty much ideal and I'll probably try to design most of the levels to feel similar in length. After playtesting with family, I also made this level quite a bit easier. Considering this is the second real level, this was the right choice and it honestly feels more fun for me too. All this level really needs now aside from the obvious lack of artwork is maybe a few more tweaks in the third section with the mesh fences going up and down into the pits; otherwise, I'm very happy with it.
