The original promise of the SD2SNES was that thanks to its FPGA core, it would be capable over time of supporting more varieties of custom mappers and enhancement chips than any other Everdrive before. That promise was in time delivered on when SuperFX support came to SD2SNES via a firmware update in 2018. Since then developments have come at a rapid clip, including the SA-1 update (supporting Kirby Super Star and Super Mario RPG among others), and a recent firmware update to 1.10.3 at https://sd2snes.de/ that fixed some issues with emulating those chips correctly.

As an unexpected bonus though, the latest firmware also enabled a clever coder (who remains anonymous) to patch in never before seen support for Super GameBoy and Super GameBoy 2! That means you can now play original Nintendo GameBoy (and some GBC games) through your vanilla SD2SNES or the updated SD2SNES Pro! This video demonstrates the functionality and shows you how easy it is to update your SD2SNES to support it.

You need Krikkz 1.10.3 firmware at the SD2SNES blog above along with the update pack from Smokemonster at https://www.retrorgb.com/sd2snes-super-game-boy-open-sourced-author-revealed.html plus a few files you'll have to obtain on your own (not included in the firmware update or the care package).
