Today we’ll try our hand at Super Ghouls’n’ghosts, one of Magnus’ favourite oldschool classics for SNES.

It was developed by Capcom for the SNES in 1991, and is the third game in their series about Arthur. The first two were Ghosts’n Goblins for the NES (1985) and Ghouls’n Ghosts for the arcades (1988).

The story follows Arthur, who must save the Princess from the hands of Emperor Sardius, who has kidnapped her in order to learn the location of the Goddess’ Bracelet, the only weapon that can defeat him.

In true retro (and Capcom) fashion, this game is a sidescrolling action platformer, complete with NES-like difficulty and a doublejump to boot. Arthur has various weapons at his disposal, and can even upgrade his armour in order to vanquish his enemies.

Magnus has played this game before, so he knows how hard it can be, but watch and see how difficult the transition from modern handholding to oldschool hard (and hands-off) can be for unknowing subjects.
