Super Mario Galaxy - Episode 21: It's not Over Yet
In today's episode of the "Super Mario Galaxy" playthrough, we defeat Bowser and save the universe, only to discover that we need to obtain 15 more stars that involve collecting 100 purple coins in some way, shape, or form.
Out of all of the final Bowser stages in 3D "Mario" games, I'd have to say that the one from this game has always been a favorite for me. Sure, this stage is on the simple side- especially since it doesn't have the insta-kill dark matter that was featured in the previous Bowser level- but for me, that's where a lot of its charm comes from since that makes it a fun level to replay; and trust me, if you want to 100% this game, you're going to be replaying it. Not to mention, this level leads up to my favorite Bowser fight in the series.
While the stage itself lacks the classic "Bowser's Road" music, it more than makes up for it by giving Bowser's final boss fight music that really showcases how Mario's fighting his eternal rival for fate of the universe- especially when that epic chorus kicks in. And as for the fight itself, all three phases are a blast- from spin-punching Bowser in the face when he transforms into a boulder in the first to mercilessly comboing him with those green springy punching bag plants in the second to finally fighting him in the center of a massive red giant for the third.
However, while we may have put an end to Bowser's plans and saved the universe, we're not done yet. We still have 15 stars to collect (one for each of the game's multi-star galaxies), all of which involve us collecting 100 purple coins- essentially the 100 coin stars from "64" and "Sunshine" cranked up to 11, with some being much worse than others.
Sure, the Good Egg Galaxy's purple coin mission doesn't seem all that bad since the game pretty much places the coins in straight lines in a small area, but trust me when I say that some of the purple coin missions can be torturous. Though the galaxies that I'm thinking of are probably different than those that come to mind to those who have played through all of the purple coin missions.
