Super Mario Galaxy - Episode 17: A Spring in Our Step
In today's episode of the "Super Mario Galaxy" playthrough, we get all of the stars (for the time being) in the Toy Time Galaxy, face King Kaliente in a rematch in order to earn our final Grand Star, and save Luigi from a bug.
While the Engine Room's home to one of my least favorite galaxies, it also contains one of my favorites in the form of the Toy Time Galaxy, which is the opposite to the Sea Slide in nearly every way: it has numerous portions that are all memorable in their own way- platforming on some toy trains at the start, a giant 8-bit Mario that we have to traverse in order to get five silver stars, and a birthday cake planet that you reach after traverse an ice cream-themed platforming section to name a few- features the Fast Foe comet, the rarest Prankster Comet, has a catchy, unique theme, and has my favorite background in the game.
Not only that, but you get a cool boss fight in the first mission against a giant toy Bowser that you have to climb up while music that's very reminiscent to main theme of the tank minigame from "Wii Play" plays in the background. Heck, I'd even go as far as to say that this version of Mecha Bowser serves as a better giant robot boss than Megaleg.
The only downside about this galaxy is that it features the Spring Mushroom, a power-up that's widely disliked due to how you're always bouncing around, which in turn causes you to be unable to line Mario up to take advantage of the increased jump height that the power gives you.
