Super Mario Odyssey - Trek to the Darker Side (Part 16)
This video continues a full, uncommentated playthrough of Super Mario Odyssey to Darker Side, for The Challenge Series on SDGShawn's Discord, run by SDGShawn and TrenteR_TR. This video covers the final kingdom revisits, of Wooded, Moon and Mushroom, ending with a total of 500 Moons. This unlocks Darker Side, which this video also visits.
First stop I make is back to Wooded Kingdom, to grab the chat with Peach that I missed several parts ago. I also grab the shop Moon I missed every time I've been here with the shop, as well as one last batch of souvenirs, and what I am 100% sure is the final costume purchase of the run. I hop up to get the Moon from Peach...after a detour to the wrong checkpoint, and realising I'd never actually hit the right checkpoint!
Peach is now available on the Moon, so after a few more Moons in Wooded Kingdom, I head over to Moon to pick up that one. I do a brief check of the Toadette list, to see how close I am to finishing the game, and I see I'm only a few Moons off of being able to reach 500 from Toadette, so I grab a few more - including more Freerunning. I really enjoy Freerunning.
With just nine Moons remaining, I decide to make Mushroom my final stop on the world tour I've been performing. I do another Freerunning - seriously, this one's super easy - Peach provides her final Moon of her world tour, and Toadette rounds out our count to the magic number. I make one more stop to return my outfit to the Mario 64 one, and then...it's time.
There it is. The final Multi Moon of the game. All I gotta do is get through this gauntlet, and the challenge is over. The issue is, of course, getting through the gauntlet. The UFO enemy at the start actually does have a reason for you to want to kill it, as it awards a Life-Up Heart for killing it, but it's very much not worth the time investment.
It's definitely been a while since I've played Darker Side, and it definitely shows. I'd like to think I get the hang of the earlier sections pretty quickly, especially up to the Podoboo section, where it's rare for me to reach with anything less than 3 health. Most of my Podoboo sections do involve at least 1 damage, but unlike previous final gauntlet levels, this one is kind enough to have a LOT of health available, and I take full advantage of this.
The Frozen Water section is one I definitely learn the lore for very quickly - get there as quickly as possible, roll under the water while the Fuzzies are above you, then swim up fast. Yoshi's section is pretty simple too, with two main ways to do it - trigger the enemies and run under the blocks, or jump over them. I start by going over, but I definitely end up going under by the end of the run.
I chat to the Sphinx to get the Life-Up Heart he permanantly unlocks - this will come in handy later on. I continue to answer his questions for his one-time bonus of coins, as it's close to 600 of them, and I might want them if I keep this save going.
This is getting a little wordy, so I'll leave the rest of the Kingdom for next video.
