As soon as you return to Seaside Town, the Elder and the other strange Toads will confront you, revealing that they are all parts of the Smithy Gang's next commander, Speardovich. He will demand the Star Piece; it is best to hand it over immediately, or your reward for defeating him later will be reduced.

Once you hand over the Star Piece, Speardovich will flee toward the sea, but Johnny will emerge to stop him. Speardovich, cornered, will then assume his true form and engage you. In battle, Speardovich wields powerful magic, including Will-o-Wisp, Flame Stone, and most notably Water Blast. He can also use strong physical attacks, and can deploy a decoy with Mirage Attack! to distract you from damaging him.
