Once you have completed the Shadow Mario chase episodes in every world, Delfino Plaza will flood and access to the final area, Corona Mountain, will open. Corona Mountain has only one episode, in which the final boss battle of the game can be found.

When you arrive in the level, you must cross a river of lava by jumping from platform to platform. Some platforms have spikes that emerge at regular intervals, while others are on fire and must be temporarily extinguished with water first. Halfway through, you find a mud boat you must use to carefully cross the lava without colliding with any obstacles, as one collision will sink the boat. At the end you'll obtain the Rocket Nozzle and make a series of leaps into the clouds above the mountain.

At the top, Bowser and Bowser Jr. are holding Peach hostage in a giant hot tub. You must go to each of the five switch marks around the tub and use the Rocket Nozzle to leap high into the air, then ground pound the marks while dodging the Bullet Bills and Bowser's fire. Once all five have been hit, the tub will turn over, defeating Bowser.
