Hey, everyone! I thought that you all might find this interesting, if you haven’t heard of it/seen it yet.

To be clear, I did NOT discover this. I learned about it from The Cutting Room Floor: https://tcrf.net/Super_Metroid#Shaktool_Attack. This was also briefly mentioned, but not shown, in Maker’s recent video, “The Super Metroid Iceberg Explained” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tC_o0ciOB58). I couldn’t find a video of the unused Shaktool attack on YouTube, so I figured I’d make one.

Just enter the “cheat codes” AADE2D21 and AAD99FEA, and you can try this out yourself. Although TCRF and Maker both mention the Game Genie, note that these are actually NOT Game Genie codes (so, do NOT add a hyphen in the middle when entering them).

Shaktool moves considerably slower when his unused AI and attack are enabled. The projectile itself deals 10/5/2 damage to suitless/Varia Suit/Gravity Suit Samus, respectively.

Why D e e R F o r C e scrapped this idea is uncertain - Please share your thoughts in the comments! I remember, as a kid, initially expecting Shaktool to shoot something from its “snout”. Turns out, the devs at least considered it.
