Super Smash Bros. Brawl -- 18 October 2010, Custom Stages #03
And so we draw to a close and my designed stages are finally exhausted, and we can move on to the ones I've acquired from my arch-rival of countless years...okay, maybe it's not THAT dramatic, but he didn't seem nearly as taken with the Stage Builder as I was, but he did come up with a minor theme for three stages of his own, but more on that later.
I actually must confess that all this reexamination of my old Stage Builder creations as well as tooling around with the new WarioWare has gotten me on something of a minor creative kick. I actually did come up with another new stage, but I think I'll try to get somebody else in my locality to join me in my madness.

Match #1: Butter Bridges (by Joou)
"Don't slip!"
Title / Ending (Super Mario World)
King Dedede (Joou)
vs. Jigglypuff (LAM)
vs. Diddy Kong
vs. R.O.B.
So, actually, I can't rightly decide what I was really thinking about at the time I brought this thing into being. I mean, the music and name would seem to refer to the Butter Bridge area of Super Mario World...but clearly there were only two bridges there, and the lower one was called the Cheese Bridge...and I sure as heck don't see any Soda Lake nearby, do you?
...and when the heck would they have built a whole extra bridge, and then bothered to tear chunks out of the whole lot of them to leave in place some rickety floating platforms in their stead? Plus there are these...stacks of building blocks floating in the middle of nowhere, a far cry from the Vanilla Dome and Cookie Mountain on either side of the span.
The other idea I've got is that maybe I drew an unusual amount of influence from the Butter Building, and decided that maybe the thing wasn't rickety enough as it was, it needed to have several swathes sliced out of it.
All I know is that it was a surprisingly difficult choice to come up with which of the two songs to use for this stage,

Match #2: Enraged Sine (by RAD)
Scrap Brain Zone
Meta Knight (Joou)
vs. Ice Climbers (LAM)
vs. Falco
vs. Falco
Apparently RAD never saw much need for description lines, but I suppose that since they don't even show up anywhere but the Stage Builder menus, it doesn't actually make much of a functional difference.
So basically, the major element to focus in on is the fact that the floating platforms placed one after the other along adjacent spaces will result in them being just a slight fraction of a period out of phase, creating a really neat effect. I suppose starting positions based on a platform's coordinates isn't really that bad an idea, come to think of it.
At any rate, the stage select screen pretty much gives away what the other two stages' names are, but what really puzzles me is where the adjectival participles came from. I mean, have you ever made your trigonometry homework so upset that you enraged a sine?
This must be a seriously enraged sine wave, anyway, because it's split itself down the middle and the halves have decided to go off and do their own thing, oriented such that they've become completely...vertical! Oh, won't somebody please think of the asymptotes!
But yeah, it's this kind of silliness and whimsical stage design that makes these three stages a lot of fun to ramble around on...just don't expect that they'll get you anywhere when it comes to a little leg up on your trig homework, okay? If anything, they'll just scrap your brain and you'll find yourself even further from the zone than you were before.
More unhealthy trigonometry to come in the last pair of stages in the set.
