As a person who one of its dreams was to play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, I am on the fence. I delayed my Nintendo Switch + Super Smash Ultimate purchase. I love playing online multiplayer games, and I was planning on enjoying Super Smash Bros Ultimate while mostly focusing on online gameplay.

However, I've read many people who are complaining about many issues with the online gameplay, including lags, screen freeze, disconnections, issues to find online matches, etc.

I am quite baffled with why such an amazing game on a modern console, can't give players a great online experience, especially now that people start paying Nintendo for its online services.

I've read about some people recommending installing a LAN adapter to the Nintendo Switch when playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate online to get a smooth experience and recommend everyone doing so. Others want to see dedicated servers and others just things that nothing will be solved by Nintendo and this bad online experience will stay there for the entire life of the game.

Well, I want to hear your opinion. I am not a hardware expert nor I have the console or played SSBU. How bad is the online gameplay experience of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, if it is that bad as players say it is?

Update: I am also reading that Smash Bros. Ultimate doesn't allow 2vs2 with a friend, so you can't play with a friend against 2 other strangers. People wanted this game mode for the past 3 Smash game and still, Nintendo doesn't give it to them. So it's not just the online connectivity issues that are the problem, but probably also the approach to online game design that pulls this title back and frustrates players yet all over again.

Just imagine how fun it can be when you team up with a friend or a family member online and go and fight other two random players. This is something I would have wanted to have.

By the way, the matchmaking from what I've read does prioritize localization, so if there is a player closer to you geographically, he or she will be favored to due lower latency/ping for matchmaking compared to players which are located further away from you.

You remember I mentioned Splatoon 2 in the video, so some people have told me that this game has massive lags, so although it can't be conclusive, it seems to me that many Switch online games have those same issues.
